On October 7, 2023, approximately 5,000 migrants were living in the Gaza border communities: labor migrants working in agriculture, construction, and domestic care; students participating in the agricultural internship program; and asylum seekers. Among the victims murdered on that day, 71 were citizens of Thailand, Nepal, China, the Philippines, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Moldova, Eritrea, and Sudan. An additional six workers from Thailand and India were subsequently killed in the north of Israel. All of them had come to Israel to earn a living or study and for a better future. And all met a brutal death far from their homes and families.
The body of Bipin Joshi, a Nepalese student who was kidnapped on October 7, was returned to Israel only two years later, on October 14, 2025. The body of Sonthaya Oakkharasri, the father of a 7-year-old daughter who was working in the greenhouses of Kibbutz Be’eri, was returned on October 18, 2025. That of Joshua Mollel, an agricultural student from Tanzania who had arrived in Israel just 19 days before he was murdered in the massacre, was returned to Israel on November 5, 2025, and that of Sudthisak Rinthalak, a labor migrant from Thailand and the last remaining migrant in Gaza, was returned on December 4, 2025. He leaves his parents and a brother.
Every one of them left their families and loved ones, and a full life that is lost forever.
May their memory be a blessing.
