2014 – CIMI becomes an independent nonprofit organization

In January 2014, CIMI ended its status as a department of JDC-Israel. Sometime later, then-director Ilan Cohn would say that it was the right move. Work on issues concerning migration and various aspects of migrant workers and asylum seekers of all kinds required an independent organization dedicated exclusively to those areas. Having registered CIMI as an independent nonprofit organization, founder and chairman Arnon Mantver sought to appoint people with experience in foreign affairs, migration, and immigrant absorption, most of them former employees of government ministries and organizations engaged in these areas, to the board of directors.
